Stunning scenery
Many golf courses in Wales are situated on cliff tops or hills, offering specular views over the Bristol Channel or the rolling Welsh countryside. For one of the most beautiful golf settings in not just Wales, but the whole of Britain, Pennard Golf Club or West Monmouthshire Golf Club is the place to be. Pennard Golf Club is often referred to as ‘the links in the sky’ because it’s located 200 feet above the Bristol Channel. West Monmouthshire Golf Club, however, is the highest golf course in Britain, with its 14th tee 1,500 feet above sea level, overlooking the Gwent, Powys and Monmouthshire countryside.
Wales is home to some of the oldest golf clubs in Britain
Immerse yourself in the history of Welsh golf when you pay a visit to the clubs here. Some golf clubs in Wales date all the way back to the 1880s, such as Tenby (thought the be the oldest in the country), Borth and Ynsylas, and Pontewydd. But no matter which club you visit, each have amazing old photographs hung on the walls, showing past members and events. Some even have staff and players who are happy to sit down with you and reminisce about former glories and discuss modern-day golf.
There are many upcoming fixtures planned
If you’re one to follow major golfing events, you’re in for a treat if you plan on visiting Wales between 2020 and 2021. Some fixtures for next year include the Welsh Seniors’ Championship, the European Girls’ Team Championship and the European Boys’ Team Championship. It was also recently announced that Royal Porthcawl will host the 2021 AIG Women’s’ British Open – a further boost for golf in Wales.

Don’t forget to take a break from golf for at least one day to experience everything else Wales has to offer. With over 400 castles spread throughout the country, it would be a shame to not visit the likes of Cardiff Castle, Caernarfon Castle or Beaumaris Castle. Some say that Wales is the ‘castle capital of the world’.
