The UK golfing season runs from springtime and finishes at the end of summer. This is not to say you can’t play golf all year round, however. During peak months the days are longer and warmer which offers up the perfect playing conditions and in turn makes it a busier time to play. Although, the UK weather is unpredictable all through the year and for this reason many golfers play outside this typical golfing season if weather and course opening times permit. The UK has a plethora of exciting golfing events approaching between now and 2024. Have a look at our highlights.
The 151st & 152nd Open
One of the biggest highlights for golf fans that is worth visiting the UK for is The Open. The 151st will be hosted by the Royal Liverpool and 152nd by the Royal Troon.
This will be the 13th time The Open golfing event has taken place at Royal Liverpool with Rory McIlroy lifting the Claret Jug previously in 2014. Royal Liverpool is one of the oldest courses on the English seaside. The green provides a demanding test for shot selection and distance control of each player making it the perfect test for the pro’s. The Club recently celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2019 and boasts a wealth of history having played a significant role in the development of golf in the UK.

Royal Troon’s Old Course was founded in 1878 and was designed by James Brain, a five-time champions golfer. The 152nd Open in 2024 will mark the 10th time the Open has occurred in Troon. The course begins easing golfers into the striking landscape and test them on the back 9 with challenges that match any finish in the world. Most recently Troon hosted the Championship in 2016 where Henrik Stenson defeated Phil Mickelson in a memorable battle of skill and precision.
AIG Women’s Open
Set to return to St Andrews in 2024, this will be the thirds time the unforgettable, Old Course has hosted the prestigious women’s Championship. All the great champions have played St Andrews, making it an appealing venue to most players in the game that challenges even the most accomplished golfers. Lorena Ochoa became the first player to win the Championship at the Old Course in 2007 and American, Stacy Lewis in 2013. Of the nineteen venues that have hosted the AIG Women’s Open since its creation, there are none with more history and better known than the St Andrews, Old Course.
